Week 7: Wrapping it Up

Hello for the final time! I can’t believe we cranked out 7 whole weeks of SEED. Since we are reel-y are at the end of our time here, let me give y’all a recap of my week one last time.

Figure 1: Front view of our prototype

Coming into the week we were all kind of stressed to what state in regards to functionality we could get our prototype to in three work days. Alongside worrying about the functionality of our prototype we also had to put together our final presentation and documentation for a transfer of all our progress and details. So coming in bright and early Monday morning we were feeling like we were being cranked by all of our obligations. I think one good thing that has allowed our team to get past most of the road blocks we have faced through our time here was our ability to cheer each other up and lift each other’s morals. So for what could be the final time we were able to take the hand crank back and tackle our obligations one at a time. We started with focusing on our functionality aspect. Friday we had laser cut a smaller acrylic gear for our rack. But before we implemented this we wanted to somehow water proof our prototype to give it some

sort of protection against being stained by emulsion, proxy or not. To do this we had to sand the base, our platform, and basically anywhere we thought emulsion can stain our device. After sanding we applied a coating of acrylic spray to basically seal the surface and make it moisture/water resistant. While we waited for that to dry we found some time to split up on starting our presentation and the documentation. Although we weren’t having the most fun, time still was flying by. The next day after our board and the different components being water proofed dried we assembled our prototype for the last time and tested our device one last time. The results weren’t what we were hoping for as some of our objectives, like consistency of the coating and the durability of our gears, weren’t as optimal as we hoped. We were pleased nonetheless with what we have created as we sort of reflected on what it took to get there. We continued this reflection as we finished up our presentations and the necessary documentation.

Figure 3: Dinner at Wettergreen’s!

Wednesday night we were privileged to have been invited to Wettergreen’s place (his in-laws’ place, but close enough). It was a nice outlet to release most of the stress that built up the first three days of the week as we dined to the fullest on some homemade pasta and salad while watching the sunset. It really was a night to reflect upon our time at SEED and cherish the friendships we have made, and for that I would love to thank the Wettergreens for being the best host! After a good night and on a full stomach were able to kill our presentations the next morning! I want to also thank the Huff’s for all of their support over the summer and for the wonderful memento we could take away to remember our summer with.

Although we weren’t able to deliver our project to our client, our team had lots of fun going through the Engineering Design Process and coming up with our solution. I was able to grow as a team member and as an individual while immersing myself in Engineering Design, and for that I would like to thank SEED and all of its sponsors for giving me the opportunity to do so!

Its been reel,

Mathias Adamu

Your presentation Thursday was clear and well-delivered as were all of your blogs.
