Week 3: Fresh Start!

Find Week 2’s blog here : )

Week 3 was short but packed! We had a three-day weekened for Juneteenth, so we started on Tuesday.

Shelmet

Tuesday and Wednesday were slow days for Team Shelmet. Ben and I were primarily doing research to prepare for brainstorming, while Chif and Abubakr spent 30+ hours traveling to Houston. On Thursday, the whole team was together, and we knocked out brainstorming and some solution analysis. Unfortunately, Ben had to take off for the afternoon (and the rest of the week). On Friday, we revisited our janky solution analysis after learning about the process through a workshop led by Dr. Hunter. It took almost the entire day to set up our proxies, modify our design criteria, and finally score our full solution ideas to figure out what we would be moving on with for the rest of the program. We ordered some materials, and we’re hoping to begin prototyping next Monday!

For the helmet haptics project, we are still waiting on components to arrive. We had talked to our client mid-week to discuss progress with acquiring materials, and we were hoping to receive components on Friday. That hasn’t happened, but in the meantime we cleaned up our testing plans and started researching both software and hardware sides to the prototype. We’re eager to begin testing next week!

Excited to report back next week :^)
