Second week: Finishing zoo project and starting Wheelchair

During the current week we worked hard to finish our zoo project: project an enrichment device for the Okapis. We did low and medium fidelity prototypes. I got surprised how we can make prototypes in just a few minutes and how they can help us to physically see our ideas . You can see one of our Low Fidelity prototypes below.

After doing this prototype, we continued working in our ideas, we made a proof of concepts prototype, a CAD modeling of our idea and we used one laser cut and one 3D printer to have a medium fidelity prototype ready to present.

We made some mistakes and we learned with them. It will make us better engineers in the future.

After the presentations, we have been divided in new teams and each team received a new project. Now, Jake, Kalen, Christina and I will work in a wheelchair transfer, which will, for sure, challenge our team and each member`s skills to complete the project in time.

Yesterday (Thursday) we did three dynamics that made us think in how disabilities make the world harder for people. For a few minutes, we lived the life of whom have arthrogryposis, visual and mobility disabilities. In the photo below, you can see my friend Carlos Sbardelotto trying to eat whit his arm tied as the arthrogryoposis do with people. It was very hard to eat with the arm tied.

I am very excited for today and next week. Today we will interview the client of our wheelchair transfer project and based in the information that she will give us we will be able to do our design criteria, brainstorm, matrix and start to develop new solutions and/or redevelop the prototype that the OEDK already has.

I believe in our`s team potential, in each member`s skills and I believe that we will create a good solution and that we will be able to finish the project in time.
