Week 5: Prototype Review

See Week 4’s blog here!

This week was a super super super short week due to the Fourth of July holiday. I ended up getting a lot of rest over the extended weekend! But we only had three days to prepare for prototype review on Friday 😮

We received our final components — the nice!nano v2.0 and plastic wrap we planned to use for waterproofing — and started putting together our prototype for review. After meticulously wiring our second iteration and then checking for functionality, we realized that some of the switches were too compressed inside the case, causing them to get stuck. So, we had to recut a third case and wire everything up again : (

Our third iteration addressed the issue (mostly), and we finally were able to test the nice!nano and make sure it worked, particularly with typing, Bluetooth, and battery charging. We showed this third iteration to our client and got really good feedback on it, mostly centered around form factor and fit. Soon after our informal meeting with our client, we went into prototype review to demonstrate what we had so far and the journey we took to get there. We also received some good feedback from the review panel, mostly centered around user interaction with the device and further iterations.

Additionally, after talking with the team about what routes we could take moving forward, we decided to aim to use the ESP32 in our final prototype due to its advantages in versatility. We also decided to implement some suggestions from both our client and the reviewers.

This week was pretty slow for the haptics project. With only three days and a prototype review to prep for, no one in the team had the time to dedicate to this project. However, we were able to meet with our client and are expecting to visit his workplace next week to receive our PCB and a quick rundown on how to operate the system.

There’s only two weeks left in this program! 😮

Till next time : > !
